Strip of bobbin lace with a carnation between V-shaped fields

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The pattern consists of a double narrow scroll, which along the lower edge forms a series of pointed oval-shaped cartouches and also forms at regular intervals with diagonal lines to the top of the strip V-shaped fields. A large carnation on a curved stem springs from the scroll along the bottom edge and is always in the space between two successive V-shaped fields. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with very thick contour threads. Several decorative grounds are applied in the cartouches and in spaces. The slightly scalloped lower edge results from the pattern with the double scroll and is finished with picots. The upper edge is finished with a separately bobbin-worked straight band.
