Handkerchief of batiste with embroidered crown above the initials MH and a border of machine lace and bobbin lace

Handkerchief of natural-coloured batiste with a border of machine lace and around that a border of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Lille lace. On one corner of the batiste white embroidery is visible: diagonally placed the initials M and H. Each letter stands in a separate oval cartouche, interlocked and decorated with bunches of flowers and feathered leaves. Above the decorated initials is a small crown. The handkerchief is edged around the batiste with a border of machine lace, an unadorned machine trellis ground. The outer border attached directly to this is made of bobbin lace, with a repeating pattern of two c-motifs turned towards each other and flattened. The motifs are made in linen stitch and are provided with thicker and shiny contour threads. Inside the c-motifs a decorative ground has been applied, a rose ground. The shallow shell border is finished with picots. The bobbin lace border is attached smoothly to the handkerchief, except for the gathered corners.
