Strip of linen with openwork circles with suns and stars

Strip of natural-colored linen with openwork circles: English embroidery. The lower half of the strip is worked. The pattern consists of thirteen rows of openwork circles with embroidered edges. In the center the circles are decorated with alternating suns, stars and wheels. In some rows there are also rosettes, made with a smaller openwork circle around which six other circles lie as petals. Between the successive circles in the top row, triangles are built up with ten of these small circles. The scalloped edge along the underside of the strip is finished with a wavy line of these small circles, around which small lobes are made per scallop. The strip was presumably intended or used for attachment to a bodice.
