Square Cashmere Shawl, Decorated with Red-Pink and Green Striped Floral Motifs on a Beige Ground

Square palm shawl, woven of wool, with a plain umber-ochre ground in field and border, decorated with scattered small flowers in pink, blue, red, green and white. The central pattern consists of an endless pattern of shifting rows of small palmettes, alternately with blue-white and rose-white hearts, all with left-facing tops - except those on one row at one end (where also the twill shift lies). Each palmette is surrounded by fine scrolling work in light and dark green, red and a little yellow, rose and white. Minuscule palmettes stand between the main motifs. Very small corners slope the central field off, which begin with a strip of fine grid work in green on white, behind which stands a flower stem with a carnation in the top, all in the same colours. The border is very narrow, with the same ochre ground within red lines. The technique is twill weave. the warp threads are brocaded per flower, but from behind launched inside. The twill shifts at one of the ends.
