Ornamental loop of linen with a front panel of needle lace with the coat of arms of Belgium

Scarf of natural-colored linen with a front panel of parts made in needle lace and parts made in bobbin lace. Within a reticella border (needle lace) of squares with rosettes and half-oval scallops with half rosettes along the outside, stands in a rectangular central field (needle lace) the crowned coat of arms of Belgium and the text "l'union fait la force" - unity is strength - the national motto. On the coat of arms a climbing lion and two looking-away lions as supporters. In a decorative border above and below the central field linked and repeating the year 1914 embroidered on a lattice ground (bobbin lace). The same lattice ground returns in two panels next to the central field, with openwork teardrop-shaped fields (mixed lace: bobbin lace with some needle lace decorative grounds). The scarf was donated by Belgian refugees to the doctor G.H. de Jong and his wife, who were both active for the relief committee in Amsterdam.
