About this work

Strip of natural-coloured machine lace: machine-made Flemish lace. The repeating pattern along the lower half of the strip consists of a hanging calyx flower, flanked and crowned by loose S-scrolls. Openwork borders run around the densely worked motifs. The motifs are connected by a machine ground suggesting a plaited ground. The top and bottom edges of the strip are finished straight, with the bottom edge provided with picots.
