About this work

Strip of natural machine lace: machine Flanders lace. The repeating pattern consists along the lower half of the strip of a hanging calyx flower, flanked and crowned by loose S-scrolls. Around the densely worked motifs run openwork borders. The motifs are connected to each other by a machine ground, which suggests a braid ground. Top and bottom of the strip are straight finished, with the bottom provided with picots.
