About this work
Strip of natural-coloured machine lace: machine-made Flemish lace. The repeating pattern along the center line of the strip consists of a whimsical five-pointed flower with four cutouts in the center. The flower is surrounded by loose motifs, C-scroll leaves and two diadem-shaped flowers mirrored across a diagonal line. Openwork borders run around the densely worked motifs. The motifs are connected by a machine ground suggesting a plaited ground. The top and bottom edges of the strip are finished straight, with the bottom edge provided with picots.
