Strip of bobbin lace with a flower stem alternating with a drop-shaped leaf

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Old Flemish lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists of a stem bent downwards with at the end an oval-shaped flower clamped between two leaves. The flower touches along the underside of the strip the beginning of a increasingly wider, drop-shaped leaf, which then again touches the next flower stem. The motifs are connected to each other by a lattice ground, a five-hole ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges, whereby in the drop-shaped leaf a mesh stitch filling is applied, with therein a configuration of four snowflakes. In the oval-shaped flower as ornamental ground a finer snowflake ground is used. Top and bottom of the strip are finished straight, whereby the bottom edge is provided with picots.
