Strip of machine-made lace with a series of alternating closed and openwork ovals along the lower edge

Strip of natural-coloured machine lace: machine-made Valenciennes lace. The repeating pattern consists along the lower edge of the narrow strip of a row of alternating an oval with openwork centre and a narrower densely worked oval. The motifs are provided with openwork edges within which runs a thicker and shiny contour thread. The contour thread is atypical for Valenciennes lace. At the upper side the ovals are connected by a machine-made lattice ground. The shallow scalloped edge along the lower edge of the strip is finished with picots: under each circle three picots, under each oval six picots. The upper edge of the strip is finished straight.
