Strip of bobbin lace with alternating hanging flower and S-scroll

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: old Brabant lace. The repeating pattern consists alternately of a hanging flower on a curved stem and a C-scroll or a shallow S-scroll. The flower forms are alternately pear-shaped, three-lobed and oval-shaped. The motifs are placed close together and connected by a fine trellis ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch and net stitch, with cutwork relief contours. As decorative ground snowflake grounds are used and, very limitedly, picoted plaited grounds. The top edge is finished with a separate cutwork band. The irregular scallops along the bottom edge are alternately formed by a hanging flower and a scroll and are finished with picots.
