Antependium strip of bobbin lace with wide rivière

Antependium strip of natural-coloured Brussels bobbin lace. Four different loose branches of ecclesiastical flowers (lily, pomegranate, grape cluster) fill triangular and shield-shaped fields, bounded by a rivière of broad C-scrolls. The triangles are alternately high and narrow and short and thick and show a fine mesh net, while the shield-shaped fields are filled with a coarse mail ground. Along the scalloped edge runs a mountain and valley line again of C-scrolls, crossed by a fine closed flower garland, which repeats at the top of the strip. The C-scrolls are filled with meshwork and wrapped with a fine flower vine or crossed by a feathered leaf.
