About this work
English horn made of palmwood with fourteen silver keys, two open rings, and a finger rest with a ring for a cord. Marked on all parts: [star] / G. GHERARDI / SUCC[ESSO]RE RIVA / FERRARA (in an oval) / RG [monogram]. The oboe is in a wooden case lined with leather and purple velvet. Marked on the lid: CARLO GHERARDI / SUCCESSORE AI F[RATE]LLI RIVA / FERRARA. Inside the case are two mouthpieces, an ebony box with wax, and a rosewood lid for the tap of the upper part. In a compartment in the case are a broken silver key and four reeds.
