Strip of bobbin lace with hanging leaf branch

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. Under a strew pattern of one-sidedly directed twigs with always one round flower attached, the repeating pattern of the scalloped edge consists of a curved twig. Between two leaf volutes on this twig hangs a large composite flower downwards. The flower consists of a drop-shaped flower heart where a half wreath of five rosette flowers lies around it. Each successive flower forms in this way a semi-round scallop. The motifs are made in linen stitch and provided with thicker and shiny contour threads. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine lattice ground, a Mechelen ground. In the drop-shaped flower hearts a coarser decorative ground is applied with therein cubes made in form stitch. The scalloped edge is finished with picots, but the edge is slightly damaged so that many picots have been lost. The upper side of the strip is finished straight. One short side is finished with a hem.
