About this work

Mary sits on a raised platform in profile to the left with the naked Child on her lap, who turns toward the kneeling Melchior, who offers her a ciborium. From left to right, the standing figure of Caspar, a young man with a sword, Balthasar with a crown, and St. Joseph. Above them, a cloud bank against which two facing naked cherubs hold a motto band together, flanked on both sides by an averted cherub. The bottom runs into a diagonally placed cartouche bearing the monogram HVH.
