About this work
Oval mirror in a gilded, ornate gilded bronze frame, decorated with shells, stylized acanthus leaf motifs on a speckled background, interrupted pearl border, and double volutes on the four centers of the arches. The frame is crowned with an ornament of symmetrically grouped leafy tendrils. In the frame an old, but barely corroded mirror glass with a cut facet edge, closed at the back by a wooden panel and two strips. Between the glass and wood a woolen fabric (as also found in the 18th-century mirrors in the Grachtenhuis: BK-NM-5783-19).
