About this work
Canon's collar of natural-colored Brabant bobbin lace. Symmetrical pattern with palmettes, volutes and floral motifs with raised contours. The motifs are made in net stitch and linen stitch with relief contours. They are connected to each other by various decorative grounds. The scalloped edge around the collar derives from the pattern. Not scalloped but smooth is the edge that closes around the neck. The 18th-century collar belonged in the 19th century to Monseigneur Simon, almoner of Marie-Henriette, consort of King Leopold II of Belgium.
