About this work
Handkerchief or nose cloth of batiste edged all around with a strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Flemish lace. Square model. In one of the corners the batiste is marked with the crowned text: 'MW 6'. Lace: the repeating and continuous pattern consists of a waving tendril with curling leaves and under each wave peak and in each wave valley a curling side branch with a peony rose. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and some cutouts. The motifs are connected to each other by a five-hole ground. Top and bottom of the strip are finished straight, where the underside (outer side) is provided with picots.
