About this work
Chalice cloth of natural-colored linen with a border of bobbin lace: old Flemish bobbin lace with a plaited ground. Square model. The repeating pattern consists of a wavy vine with always one rosette flower under the wave crests and in the wave valleys a curling leaf. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and sparingly a few small cutouts. The motifs are connected to each other by a plaited ground. Under and above the vines are some leaves made with a fairly densely worked decorative ground. The very shallow scalloped edge derives from the pattern and is finished with picots.
