About this work
Handkerchief with a border of natural-colored needle lace: Brussels gauze lace. Around a large, lobed, batiste center runs a lace border with corner rocailles, filled with open lattice work. Inner and outer contours composed of fine C-scrolls, ovals, rounds, and acanthus leaves. On the mesh are various fine tufts of roses, lilacs, rosebuds, and forget-me-nots. A more closed border shows roses, scaled edges, fan palmettes with godron edge, and rocailles with lattice filling.
