About this work
Handkerchief with a lobed batiste center and a border of natural-coloured bobbin lace: duchess lace. Around a lobed batiste center piece runs a border of lace with an open plaited ground. A symmetrical pattern shows eight large, deep shells built from a garland of hanging lilac leaves. Inside stands a daisy among loose blossoms. In the corners are bunches of lilac flowers, resulting in a rounded, almost square outline.
