About this work

Handkerchief of batiste with a border of natural-coloured mixed lace - bobbin lace combined with needle lace - Brussels duchesse. Square model with scalloped inner piece and shell border along the outer sides. In the border of bobbin lace - fine Bruges flower work - heart-shaped medallions of needle lace: Brussels gauze lace are inserted at the corners. The bobbin lace pattern consists at the corners of a rosette flower with five lobes with on each side two curls. This pattern encloses the point of the heart-shaped medallion of needle lace. The needle lace pattern consists of a fan-shaped bouquet or a flower basket on a stem, in a scattering pattern of festooned rings, so-called pearls. The bobbin motifs are connected to each other by a plaited ground. The bobbin motifs are made in net stitch and linen stitch with openwork edges, whereby the motifs are largely provided with thicker and thinner contour threads.
