About this work
Handkerchief of linen batiste with a border of bobbin lace - Lille lace - and plumetis embroidery. The lace is set smoothly along the sides and gathered in the corners. It has along the outer edge a flat picoted scalloped edge, which arises from a running pattern with a simple flower branch and half oval cartouches filled with decorative ground. Fine mesh ground with filling in linen stitch and contour lines with a thicker thread. The plumetis pattern consists of a fine vine that runs around the handkerchief and a bouquet in each corner.
