About this work

Insert of natural-colored Italian bobbin lace. Made after an Italian example from the 17th century. The repeating pattern consists of a series of slanted U-shaped motifs. They form one row between two narrow straight bands, also the top and bottom of the strip. The opening of the U-shapes is always on the same side, but alternately directed diagonally upwards or diagonally downwards. One half of each U is wider and more openwork than the other half, but unadorned. The densely worked narrower halves are decorated with bows with picots and picoted point braids.
