About this work
Fragment of black bobbin lace, Cluny lace or possibly Le Puy lace. The pattern consists among others of a rhomboid field filled with a mesh ground, a tulle ground, with in the center a thickened dot built up with velvet knots. Such dots occur as a scatter pattern over the entire fragment. Besides the rhomboid field, this pattern consists of a fan-shaped motif at one of the points of the rhombus. Along the opposite rhombus point lie two elongated and openwork pointed ovals, made with three bands mutually connected by crossing pairs and partly by motifs in buttonhole stitch.
