About this work

Fragment of black bobbin lace, Cluny lace. It concerns a rectangular fragment, which is unfinished on all sides. The fragment shows a decorative ground with seven thin straight lines, with on short and regular distance more or less heart-shaped motifs. Between the straight lines these motifs are connected with each other by crosses between curved cross-lines. In the center of each cross stands an openwork square. The straight, curved and crossing lines concern braids. The heart-shaped motifs are made in linen stitch. On one of the longer sides an openwork circle can be seen, in which in leaf-shaped buttonhole stitch a cross is made.
