Strip of black bobbin lace with drop-shaped earring motifs

Strip of black bobbin lace: Le Puy lace. The repeating pattern consists alternately of a larger and a smaller earring motif, which hang from a horizontally wavy garland. They hang a small piece below the upper side of the strip to the underside where the undersides of the large earrings form a shell border of semi-circular shells. The large 'earrings' consist of three hanging one below the other and partially overlapping drop-shaped motifs. Between two large hangs always a smaller 'earring' in the form of a single drop. The contour lines of the motifs are made in linen stitch between which crossing pairs and details in buttonhole stitch. The smaller earrings are accentuated by a contour thread. In the center of the drops a simple lattice ground is applied. The motifs are connected with each other by a much coarser (decorative) lattice ground. The upper side of the strip is finished. The shell border is finished with picots.
