Strip of Gold Lace with Squares in a Diamond Pattern

Strip of bobbin lace, gold lace, Cluny lace. The pattern is inspired by sixteenth-century gold laces and consists of a diamond on the center line, formed by crossing lines. Inside the diamond is a configuration of four small squares. Along the top and bottom edges are two ovals placed against each other, each formed by two thick arches, with a small square in the center. The arches and squares are made in buttonhole stitch and are connected by a mesh ground, an eyelet ground. The lines forming the diamond consist of three adjacent threads, which pass between the thinner threads with which the meshes are formed. The arches form scallops on both long sides of the strip.
