About this work

She stands on a base with her right leg bent forward over the lying Maxentius. In her left hand she holds an open book. Her upper body with the hanging right arm bends slightly to the left. Her hair falls over her back and shoulders. Over a shirt and undergarment, both with V-shaped necklines, a gown with a rectangular neckline and fringe on the upper sleeve. From her left shoulder the mantle passes under her right arm and is turned to the right. Maxentius, with a long braided beard, holds it with his right hand, while supporting himself with his left arm on the base. He wears a crown and a costume whose sleeves have hanging lobes at the top and further slits.
