About this work
She stands on a plinth with the bent left leg slightly forward and holds the child, seated in three-quarter view to the left, on her left hand, offering him a bunch of grapes with her right. The child, dressed in a smock, has his right hand raised in blessing. Several locks of hair hang from Mary's head; on her hair is a wreath of leaves and rosettes. The gown, gathered at the waist by a belt with a round neckline, falls in folds to the ground, leaving the points of her shoes visible. An open mantle hangs from her shoulders.
