Five Professions

Five glasses with depictions of professions in a wooden frame. The profession depicted is also always mentioned on the glass. Farthest to the left: 'silver smit' (silversmith), a silversmith seated at work by a window. To the right of that: 'wiel draijjer' (wheel-turner), a man seated behind a wood lathe. In the middle: 'raak wat slager' (butcher), a man bringing a cow while another man stands ready with a hammer. To the right of that: 'molenaar' (miller), the miller lifts a sack of grain or flour; in the background a wooden mill. Farthest to the right: 'bakker' (baker), this kneader kneads dough at a table above which hangs a scale; to his left an oven. The images seem partly to go back to the prints Menselyk Bedryf by Jan and Caspar Luyken, but are not directly copied or traced from them. The depicted professions and the composition of the images deviate too much from the original prints.
