Five Professions

Five glasses with depictions of professions in a wooden frame. The profession depicted is also always mentioned on the glass. Farthest to the left: 'timmerman' (carpenter), with an axe raised in the air to chop a piece of wood on the ground. To the right of that: 'schrijn werker' (cabinet-maker), standing with a plane at a worktable, to his right a cabinet. In the middle: 'boek drucker' (book printer), two men at a printing press. To the right of that: 'kleer maker' (clothes-maker), standing behind a table with needle and thread. Farthest to the right: 'scheep maker' (shipbuilder), a man with a hammer driving wooden pins into the hull of a small boat, another man inserting a wooden pin into the hull. The images seem partly to go back to the prints Menselyk Bedryf by Jan and Caspar Luyken, but are not directly copied or traced from them. The depicted professions and the composition of the images deviate too much from the original prints.
