Strip of bobbin lace with a peony between two curved leaves

Strip of natural-colored Dutch bobbin lace. The repeating and symmetrical pattern consists of a peony between two leaves bending upwards, which spring from below the flower. The motifs are connected by a very sparingly used irregular trellis ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges. The top and bottom edges are straight finished, with picots on one side. A darker thread runs through parts of the pattern, according to an apparently random pattern. This is presumably caused during the dyeing of the strip, where the dye was absorbed better by some threads than by others.
