View of the Two Blokhuizen in the Amstel

View of the two Blockhouses in the Amstel outside Amsterdam, built to defend the city after the failed attack by William II on Amsterdam on July 30, 1650. After being completed in 1651, they were demolished again in July 1654. To the left and right of the Blockhouses, two hameys. On the water, various boats are sailing. In one of the boats stands a small tree, and on another, the mast is being lowered. From a raft or jetty, figures are swimming, and to the front right, a figure is relieving themselves. Between the two Blockhouses in the background, the outlines of the city with the mill De Joffer and the Zuiderkerk. At the top, a shell ornament with both sides of a medal struck in 1650.
