About this work
The two Blokhuizen in the Amstel outside Amsterdam, built in 1651 to defend the city after the failed attack by William II on Amsterdam on July 30, 1650. To the left and right of the Blokhuizen are two hameien, the predecessors of the later city gates. On the water are various small boats with swimming children. At the top is a shell ornament with both sides of a medal struck in 1650. Subject headings within the Atlas of Customs and Manners: Military Affairs, Fortifications.
