Two Khoisan men stand outside smoking a pipe. The standing man on the left has short cropped curly hair and a large elongated ear ornament hanging from his right earlobe: a string of beads. He wears a cloth draped over his left shoulder that reaches to his knees at the front and back. On his right hip only a cord is visible, with which an invisible loincloth is tied. His right hand holds a short Gouda pipe to his mouth: smoke curls from the bowl. The material of the bracelets on his wrists is unclear: the small double bracelet may be made of flat beads, the larger band below of bone, ivory, or wood. The man on the right sits with his knees drawn up on a slope. He also has short cropped curly hair. Except for his right arm, his whole body is wrapped in a large shoulder cloth.
