Two labourers outside, one standing and one squatting

Outdoors, on uneven terrain, two men are drawn. The standing man on the left wears a hip cloth (veshti, lungi) pulled up above his knees; a shawl (chadar) hangs over his shoulders and arms, leaving his upper body partially bare; his right hand protrudes from the folds. To his left, slightly further back, sits a man crouching. He is also dressed in a hip cloth pulled slightly over the knees and a wide shawl over his right shoulder and arm. His bare upper body and left arm are partially visible. Both hands are folded on his knees. The clothing points to an origin in South India or Jaffna. The men were probably executed in Colombo for the reconstruction. Sheet 81 from a sketchbook of 117 sheets.
