About this work

Outside stand two women with African features and short curly hair facing each other. The woman on the left wears a wrap skirt (redda) and a Portuguese blouse with long sleeves (hatte), under which her breasts are visible. In the waist of her tucked-in wrap skirt an object protrudes, possibly a knife handle. The woman on the right also wears a wrap skirt (redda) but no upper clothing. They are likely wet nurses.
