Three Sinhalese soldiers

Outside on a sloping uneven terrain, three men pose for the draftsman. The man on the left wears a short jacket with long sleeves and a pleated lower edge (hettaya), underneath a knee-length hip-cloth (veshti, lungi) wrapped in the Sinhalese manner, and a high waistband around his waist. On his head with beard and mustache, he wears a tall cap, with short hair sticking out underneath. The man standing in the middle also wears a knee-length hip-cloth (veshti, lungi) wrapped in the Sinhalese manner, with a wide Portuguese shirt with long sleeves (kamisaya) to the waist above it. A waistband is not visible, nor the cord from which a short sword (kastane) hangs on the left hip. A tall cap covers the head. The man on the right sits on the ground with knees drawn up. He wears a knee-length hip-cloth (veshti, lungi), a high wrapped band around his waist, and above this a short jacket with long sleeves (hettaya).
