Five women labourers at the roadside

Group of five women outside on a sloping road. The faces show South Indian features. All five are dressed in a long South Indian wrap cloth (selai or sari) which is draped over the back and shoulder over the upper body, tucked in at the waist, and covers the breasts. All five women have their heads and hair covered with headscarves of varying sizes: from very simple to thickly wrapped. The woman on the left stands with her feet behind a mound of earth. They are likely laborers from South India or Jaffna, brought to Colombo for earthworks. Page 105 from a sketchbook with 117 pages.
