Four labourers

Four men outdoors on uneven ground: two seated and two standing. The man on the far left lies with his left leg stretched out, holding his raised right leg with both hands. The man slightly behind him sits with knees drawn up, turning his head over his shoulder to look at the artist. The central man stands with arms folded behind his back, gazing at the artist. These three men wear the same hip-cloth (veshti, lungi) to the knees, double-folded and tucked at the waist. The man at the back appears to wear an old shirt (kamisaya) with torn sleeves; his hair is closely shorn. The men on the left and in the center each wear a cloth draped over their shoulders and knotted at the chest with cords. They have short curly hair and beards. The central man wears bracelets on his left upper arm. The man on the far right wears his hip-cloth to the knee, drawn between the legs (as a dhoti), with a second cloth (chadar) wrapped around his waist along with a rope. His hair is short and wavy.
