About this work

A man sleeping on a wide windowsill (or niche in a wall). He lies on his left side with knees drawn up, wearing a hip cloth (veshti, lungi) pulled up above the knees, one end hanging forward over the edge; his upper body is bare. Beneath him lies a cloth – likely his shawl (chadar) rolled up at the end to support his head. Judging by his clothing, the man may be from South India, and the drawing was executed in Colombo. Sheet 73 from a sketchbook of 117 sheets.
