Flint Belt Pistol

This belt pistol was probably from the States Navy; part of a pair. The lock is the same as that of NG-2002-23-173; imitation of the French Model 1777; the lockplate bears a signature and is stamped on the inside with an M. The barrel is stamped at the rear with the coat of arms of Amsterdam and at the bottom with the letters HH; the front sight is of brass. The stock is simply carved; the recess for the tail of the barrel is stamped with a Broad Arrow mark. The brass furniture consists of a band, a ramrod tube, an unadorned thumbplate and the trigger guard; an iron triggerplate and belt hook; the wooden ramrod is fitted with a brass cap.
