About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a matchlock (a specific type of firearm) in his right hand, the barrel angled upward. He is just letting the barrel fall into his left hand, which also holds a burning match. This print is part of the series of 42 hand-numbered prints of matchlockmen in the Wapenhandelinghe. On this copy, the number is printed.
