About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a matchlock (a specific type of firearm) in his left hand. With his right hand, he presses a burning match onto the cock (part of the firing mechanism) of his matchlock. This is the same position as shown in the seventh print of the series. This print is part of the series of 42 hand-numbered prints of matchlockmen in the Wapenhandelinghe. On this copy, the number is printed.
