About this work

A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a matchlock (a specific type of firearm) in his left hand. In his left hand, besides the matchlock, a burning match. With his right hand, he grasps this match. This is the same position as shown in the fifth print of the series. This print is part of the series of 42 hand-numbered prints of matchlockmen in the Wapenhandelinghe. On this copy, the number is printed.
