About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a matchlock (a specific type of firearm) in his left hand at his right side, the barrel angled upward. In his left hand, besides the matchlock, a burning match. His right hand is extended. This print is part of the series of 42 hand-numbered prints of matchlockmen in the Wapenhandelinghe. On this copy, the number is printed.
