About this work
The Hottentots-Holland Kloof, viewed in the direction of the Palmiet River. Based on the dating, the drawing appears to have been made at the beginning of Hendrik Swellengrebel's third journey to the north of the Cape Colony, 12-29 January 1777. However, Swellengrebel was also in this area during his second journey in 1776, an interpretation that fits better with the placement of this drawing in the series.
