About this work

Short straight-pointed sword with copper quillons and stag-horn grip. Heart-shaped short sabre; straight flat broad blade with broad shallow fuller. On one side an image of a running deer, on the other side of a running boar. On both sides a cartouche with braided strapwork and the inscription: Gerrit Burghorst Mr Swordsmith in the Kalverstraat to Amsterdam. Grip of twisted stag-horn; yellow copper pommel; short S-shaped quillon. Damaged brown leather scabbard with yellow copper chape, broken mouth edge and internal wooden reinforcement.
