Model of a Vessel with Paddle Wheels Amidships

Sketch model of a ship with paddle wheels amidships. On the starboard side, the model is a complete nest model; on the port side, only two main frames are attached. The ship has two decks. Lengthwise, the ship is divided into two halves with a trough from bow to stern, in which two paddle wheels and the paddle mechanism are placed. The mechanism is driven by a crankshaft, attached between the frames on the port side. The paddle wheels, which are height-adjustable, have spoon-shaped paddles and a flat gear wheel on both sides; the crankshaft drives two parallel gears, which in turn drive the gears of the paddle wheels. The rudder is forked and has two parallel rudder blades, leaving an opening between them for the water flow to the rear. A collapsible mast with a lead counterweight is attached against the bulkhead of the paddle box between decks.
